Summertime and my hammock beacons!
My mind and body have different ideas about what I can and can not do. I’m 64 and live alone. Which means laundry, shopping, vacuuming, mopping, changing linen, dishes, dusting, mowing, weeding, fence repair, pruning and any inside or outside chore is mine alone. Yes, I’m whining! Having no one to say, “You have done enough today”, I tend to keep doing stuff until my feet hurt. Then the next day, I’m so sore I don’t want to do anything.
The good thing: I’ve learned to prioritize. I do errands and shopping before I do physical labor. Bad thing: When I go shopping and meet other women my age, many say they left their partner home doing other chores…I’m envious as I know when I get home the chores are still there!
I should set a timer. I did spend two hours in my hammock reading over the weekend. It was wonderful.
wow Gail. Stop reading and go have a rest in your hammock. I hear it calling. Or better yet, come have a rest in mine. all the chores here can wait.
Well, after re-thinking. I wonder why I call the things that make up any part of my life a chore? If I look at the inter-connectedness of everything I do, then everything I do brings me joy. For instance: Mowing the lawn brings difinativity to my space and separates my lawn from the field of wildness it is connected to; leaving the grass lay as a mulch feeds the soil and encourages birds to inhabit the area. Planting flowers and plants add color. Keeping my house clean keeps unwanted odor and insects away; i.e. I enjoy walking into my house and smelling a clean sweet scent. Keeping my space in this manner allows me to appreciate the inter-connectedness of everything I do; bringing me peace and joy.
