dirty dishes no reason to pull kids

I got a call from ‘Ex’s mom. Ex is my past foster son who took to calling me ‘Step’‘ so he wouldn’t have to think about me being his foster mom. Step as in step-mom.

Mom was reported to DHS for having a sink full of dirty dishes. Some neighbor with a grudge.

If that was the criteria for kids taken away I’d be in trouble. As I sit here writing last night’s dishes are in the sink.

Mom though is always in a pile of drama. Someone in her life is always going to jail, or getting bailed out. Her car breaks down in the middle of traffic, or gets towed off while she is at the grocery store. Things happen to her that I only see on TV.

I know about girl fights, money being stolen from her mailbox, getting locked out of her own house for hours. It is always some drama or another.

So when she called me in tears that DHS was coming to inspect her home and evaluate her I’m wondering how she manages to keep such a high level of drama in her life. I find it exaughsting to listen to - never mind live.

DHS comes out this week to visit her. I sure hope that don’t go talk to ‘Step’ at his school. That would be devestating to him. But I can’t count on DHS doing the right thing.

Moms got dirty dishes. Who cares. She doesn’t do parenting like I would. And yea, life is full of the unexpected in her world, but she doing ok.

I hope DHS sees that and sees this report for what it is. A bitchy nosey neighbor.

Step, I’m pulling for you. I hope you get to stay home.

That’s flat out ridiculous. We have a two homes on our street in which the mother at one regularly leaves both children unattended at night while she goes out and the other where parents and older siblings are using drugs… and CPS won’t do a ding-dang thing. And this lady is in trouble for dishes?

I hope they don’t come to my house on a day that Josh is working because dishes don’t get done until Nick is in bed… or, gasp, the next morning when I can breathe again! Gah.

Yea Jenna, The system is pretty messed up most of the time. The people within it all try hard, but the bureaucracy stinks.
