Do you get paid to blog?

I used to when I wrote for a couple of commercial websites, but now that I’m on my own, I have to pay my own way. Occasionally I’ll get an adoption or older mommy article published, but mostly I’m relying on the bit of advertising here and my own savings to fund my blogging habit.

My fellow (and much better,) writer over on the Writing Nag recently posted about Smorty. She just got going with it. Hey, I thought, I’ve had my application in, what about me? Low and behold advertisers were waving money in front of me. I could start today getting paid to blog. How cool.

Now I hear all of you purist bloggers groaning - you are the ones who’d never review something you didn’t believe in. well, neither would I.

I’ve already turned down an opportunity to review a product I knew nothing about, and didn’t feel interested in.

Smorty gives me that choice. I can blog for money when I see an opportunity that fits with my blog.

How cool is that?

So, there you have it. I’m blogging for Smorty, when the opportunity arises, and it makes sense for the blog and the readers. And I’ll make a bit of money blogging to help offset the hosting.
